Description of Practice
My name is Jennifer Guarino and I'm a Certified Mediator who specializes in family mediation (including family dynamics, divorce, child custody, and child support), meeting facilitation, and restorative justice. I serve as a neutral party to facilitate communication between people in conflict. Using practical problem-solving approaches, I can help you untangle difficult issues and improve your relationships. Through mediation, you speak for yourself and engage with others to create an agreement that meets everyone's needs.

Before coming to mediation, I spent 35 years as an environmental and science educator. In this capacity, I worked with K-12 students and teachers, college students, and adult learners to help them understand the systems of which they are a part, and to build positive relationships with their world.
While my kids were growing up, I spent over 10 years as a volunteer mentor in their church-based youth group, during which I helped to develop programming, served as a role model for teenagers, and made thousands (millions?) of spaghetti dinners.
To learn how to help people in conflict, I received a Graduate Certificate in Mediation and Applied Conflict Studies as well as specialized training in divorce, domestic and sexual violence, substance use disorders, trauma, and family dynamics.
I bring skills and experiences earned over a lifetime - as an educator, a communicator, a problem-solver, a systems thinker, and a mom - to my mediation practice.
Graduate Certificate in Mediation and Applied Conflict Studies, Champlain College, Burlington, VT.
Divorce Mediation Advanced Training Series, Northstar Group, Danville, VT.
Vermont Leadership Institute, Snelling Center for Government, Shelburne, VT.
Master of Science in Environmental Education, University of Michigan.
In my practice, I work closely with parties in conflict to hear their perspective and "expand the pie" of possible options. My goal is to facilitate an agreement that resolves the conflict and improves ongoing relationships.
I charge $100/hour for mediation sessions, each of which usually lasts for 2 hours. (Some clients meet for one mediation session while many meet for two or more mediation sessions.) In addition, I charge a flat fee of $75 to draft and finalize a written agreement. The parties in conflict share these expenses, typically 50/50, but the split is determined by the parties themselves.
I am a member of Mediate.com, Association for Conflict Resolution, Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, Vermont Family Mediators, and Vermont Restorative Justice Consortium.
I practice mediation in Orange County, Washington County, and Windsor County in Vermont. I meet clients in my office at 28 Pleasant Street in Randolph, or can travel to meet clients in other quiet, private locations. If distance is an issue, we can meet online through Skype or Zoom.
